The races were filmed from the corner of Monarch Street and Main Street and show the Conner Gas Station and what appears to be the expansion of Matthew Drug (later Carl's Pharmacy).

The film features Mill Street, Hyman Ave., Hotel Jerome, either Bingo or Mambo, shots of town in the show storm, the Roch Run sign on Aspen Street, lots of dogs, a costume ski race, Little Nell t-bar and then it shows a race with results of Jack McTarnaghan (16ht), Bob Wright (23rd) and Klaus Obermeyer (24th) on a chalk board. There is a ski patrol race that is very grainy. The last part of the film shows sheep being herded through town (on Cooper Ave.) in the summer.

#2020.024.0032_Geba Aspen Footage. One 5" diameter reel of 200' 8mm film from Bruno Geba of Aspen October 1956. The film shows Erna Geba and Bruno Geba at a mountain lake, probably Crater Lake. Then the film shows the Aspen Institute Seminar Building, the Sgraffito mural, and the Aspen Meadows Health Center. There is also footage of fishing at the Maroon Bells and a convertible car. At 6:00 minutes, the film shows an airplane flight and aerial views of the valley. At the end of the film, there is a party at the Geba house on Hallam Street with Gretl Uhl and her children, Anton and Renate. Also, footage of jump roping at the Aspen Meadows Health Center.

This 9:03 minute, grainy film shows a woman painting a portrait of Bruno Geba and Erna Geba, Tage Pedersen, and the Geba dog. The film also shows skiing footage, Stapleton Airport in Denver, people hiking and then sitting by an irrigation ditch. Later in the film, men dressed in Aspen Institute sweats are training at the Health Center at the Aspen Meadows, and the music tent is also shown.

#2020.024.0027_Geba Aspen Footage. One 5" diameter reel of 200' 8mm film from Bruno Geba of life in Aspen from Sept 1957- October 1958. The grainy, 13:54 film features the Winterskol parade showing lots of float and Freddie Fisher, Hotel Jerome, the Basalt High School Marching Band. Erna Geba and their dog are in the film quite a bit. Then film then goes to Highlands and shows Stein Eriksen and his famous flip. Then the film goes to Little Nell, a giant slalom ski race on Corkscrew, a slalom race at Highlands, and a downhill race.

#2016.036.0138_One Umatic videocassette with b-roll footage of birds of prey at Hallam Lake/Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES), January 21, 1986. There is footage of the golden eagle (0:00-6:20), a great horned owl (6:20-9:35), and a falcon (9:36-12:07). These birds were all found injured in the wild and nursed back to health at ACES.
B-Roll: Sunset at the Sundeck_Farewell to Iconic building, April 3, 1999_62 min.
#1999.036.0001_One VHS videotape of the Aspen Historical Society's "Sunset at the Sundeck," which was a farewell to the iconic building that was being torn down, April 3, 1999. The video begins with Miggs Durrance, Dick Durrance and former mayor John Bennett reminiscing on favorite memories of the Sundeck. Footage of the gondola ride to the top of Aspen Mountain follows, then guests arriving for the special dinner. The four managers of the Sundeck (Howard Awrey, Paul Wirth, Peter Birrfelder and Shlomo Ben Hamoo) are all in attendance. More reminiscences from Gretl Uhl, a group photo outside, then guests getting dinner from staff on the cafeteria line. Willard Clapper acts as MC for the evening, and his program starts approximately 22 mins, 45 secs in and features each former manager (and some of their children/grandchildren) speaking about their time at the Sundeck. Others sharing memories are Walt Smith, Peter Pfeifer, Jennifer Figge, Rick Newton, John McBride and Laurie McBride. The video cuts off on Laurie McBride telling a story. Run time is 1 hour, 2 mins, 27 secs.
Video Interview: Kurt Bresnitz, 2012_83 min.
Video history with Kurt Bresnitz interviewed by Mike Monroney for the Aspen Historical Society on September 26, 2012. We hear stories from the time he arrived in the United States after WWII and came to school in Denver and then moved to Aspen. Born Feb. 19, 1918 — and passed away on Nov. 5, 2016.

#1994.037.0001_One VHS video "The Waterfall House." The video tape is footage of D.V. Edmundson's house near the Newman Dam on Castle Creek shortly before it was demolished in June, 1992. The house was designed by Fritz Benedict, and the video includes excerpts of interviews with him. Photos from the Aspen Historical Society were used in partnership with the Aspen Historic Preservation Commission. The video is 9 mins, 5 secs long.

#2015.022.0001_The 15:07 minute promotional film is about BOLD, the founding of the organization and opportunities it offers, 1980. John Denver narrates and is featured in the film along with Jean Eymere, founder of the organization, Muriel Frei and Dick Fenton. Blind people with their guides going skiing, cross country skiing, ice skating, running, hiking, climbing at the Grottos and Pyramid Peak, rafting on the Colorado River, golfing and horseback riding. They also visit ACES at Hallam Lake and play guitar and sing by a campfire.

#2020.024.0033_Geba Aspen Footage. One 5" diameter reel of 8mm Sears, Roebuck and Co Tower Film produced by Bruno Geba of Aspen, May-Sept 1961. This is an 11 minute, 30 second film of Bruno Geba, his wife Erna and their daughter, Mona Geba. The film contains footage of the Aspen Meadows campus including the pool, the frame of the Buckminster Fuller Dome over the pool, the Health Center, the Marble Garden and the tennis courts. There is also footage of the Music Tent, the Geba's home, Maroon Bells and Maroon Lake.

#2014.035.0001_One 12.37 minute, 8mm film shot by the donor, Bo Bedford, for CMC class in 1970. The film features street scenes of downtown Aspen during the winter with people, cars, buildings, businesses and lots of dogs. The First National Bank Building in under construction in the film and there is a photo of the building in the same phase of construction in the Feb. 19, 1970 Aspen Times. We have named it "Dogs of Aspen."

#1968.030.0001_One b/w B-Roll film with no audio, made in 1964. The film shows the Crystal Palace with Sharon Faith and owners Mead and Joan Metcalf. It also includes a wild dancing party, a snowstorm, and a ski race. There are shots of Aspen Mountain, a slalom race in a snowstorm, and some celebrities. Buildings included in the film are the Half House located on Monarch and Hallam, the Glidden home on Bleeker St., the Koch Lumber Co. (when it was in good condition) on 101 West Cooper St. and the Delany house on E. Cooper which is now the Little Red Ski Haus. Also Aspenite "Red" Rowland is in the film.

#2020.024.0029_Geba Footage. One 8mm B- Roll film from Bruno Geba of Aspen area in 1957. This 11:16 minute, grainy film shows the Winterskol parade including the Aspen High school marching band, Tenth Mtn. Division vets, El Jebel Shriners' band, Basalt High School marching band, and a float from Louie Spirit House. At 2:00 minutes in the film switches to a ski race. At 4:00 the film shows the Hotel Jerome, Main Street, Aspen Meadows, Geba house on Hallam Street, and Erna Geba hanging clothes on a line. The Roch Cup race starts at 5:40.

#2019.003.0002_One digitized 16 mm film of the 1950 FIS World Championships in Aspen. The film was shot by Paul and Ralph Lafferty, during a ski trip to Aspen. Both men were Tenth Mtn. Division veterans. The footage features driving into Aspen with the FIS sign and Castle Creek bridge, giant slalom, slalom and downhill races on Slalom Hill and Niagra; as well as Lift One, Sundeck (11:00), skiing on Buckhorn (10:15) and a large log house in Glenwood Springs that belonged to Ralph Lafferty's father-in-law. The downhill racers ski by the Veteran Mine Tippler. There are short clips of the Hotel Jerome and Main Street at the beginning of the film.

The third clip shows many of the same scenes as well as Fred Iselin, Lift Three and Lift Six.

The film shows construction at Gretl's Restaurant (Bonnie's), trail maintenance, lift maintenance and powder skiing. The narrator says "Aspen ski areas spend $1 million annually on routine maintenance" and ends the film by saying "get in shape for skiing and safety check your equipment."

#2018.002.1207_Durrance Production. One 6:45 minute, color, silent, 16mm film containing footage of skiing on Aspen Mtn., filmed by Dick Durrance, during the winter of 1945-1946. The film was shot before Lift One was built. The footage includes the boat tow, Dick Durrance, people hiking/skiing/skinning up the backside of Aspen Mtn. as well as the frontside, miners at Midnight Mine, a picnic at Peanut Butter Ridge, waxing skis, and then lots of skiing on Aspen Mtn. including Tourtelotte Park, North American and Spar Gulch. Also shown are Steve Knowlton, Johnny Litchfeild, Friedl Pfeifer and a little ski racing footage in the last minute. May be B roll for the Durrance film "Aspen Album."

#2018.002.1210_Durrance Film. One 8:05 minute, color, silent, 16mm film containing footage of skiing on the Big Burn at Snowmass, filmed by Dick Durrance, circa 1965. The first two minutes are of Aspen including jazz at the Golden Horn (Bert Dahlander is recognizable), Roch Cup ski racing and lunch at the Sundeck. then the film is aerial and panoramic footage of all the ski areas. Then the rest of the film is Snowmass powder skiing before lifts (there are no views of lifts but they don't show a snowcat so ...). Stein Eriksen is one of the skiers.

2018.002.1205_Durrance Film. One 16mm film of the 1950 FIS World Championships men's downhill ski race by Dick Durrance, narrated by Gary Cooper. The film starts in town at the Hotel Jerome, shows Bingo then shows Lift One. The footage shows racers going over the Dam, down Spar Gulch, over Niagra then through Schuss Gully to the finish. There are lots of crashes. Many of the ski racers are named. From Aspen Mountain some people ski down to the edge of the Aspen Inn pool, where others are sunbathing and swimming. Local personalities such as Fred Iselin, John Mathias, and Red Soderstrom, Gretl Uhl, Flossie Adams, Dick McCrudden, Doug Gargle, Morrie Shepard, Rick Gardner and Jane Leddy can be seen. Barbara Vought and Edgar Stanton put on a skiing performance for the camera, and Dave Farny demonstrates his powder skiing technique.

The film was shot by the donor's father and uncle, Paul and Ralph Lafferty. Both men were Tenth Mtn. Division veterans. The footage features Camp Hale, Ski Cooper, maneuvers near Mt. Holy Cross, snow shelters, a Weasel snowcat and a bit at the end of the film at Ashcroft.

It shows the exterior of some of the old public buildings, as well as the interior of the Hotel Jerome. The film shows Aspen Mountain, the early Roch Run, and some school children on the T-Bar at the Little Nell. There is also some footage of a cross country ski race with people in costume, and ski jumping off the old jump hill. The exterior and interior of the Sundeck is also shown. Some people identified in this film are Ray Milland, Gary Cooper, Friedl Pfeifer.

It includes early photos of the town of Aspen, showing remodeled homes (many done by architect Walter Frasier of Chicago) and guest cottages around town. The Hotel Jerome remodel can also be seen, with interior shots of the hotel. There is footage of the t-bar and children skiing on Little Nell, the Tipple, and a single chair lift up the mountain, as well as the Sundeck Restaurant. Race scenes include the race for the Gold Aspen Leaf, the first dual slalom ever staged, and ever-popular Easter Egg Ski Race for children. Begins with a ski race with Gale "Spider" Spence on the course, then proceeds to tell the story about Aspen with a subplot of young people meeting on a ski vacation. Evie Jacoby, one of the "stars" of the film, comes to Aspen via plane. There are scenes of the town of Aspen and people ready for skiing. Ms. Jacoby rides the Lift One and Lift Two up Aspen Mountain, where she meets Tom Carter, "star" number two of the film at the Sundeck. From this point on, the couple will be seen intermittently. Scenes of Aspen Mountain include locals such as Red Rowland, Hal Hartman, and Jack de Pagter, who is seen unloading restaurant milk cans off the chair lift. Also, members of the Junior Ski Team can be seen ski jumping. Frank Willoughby tells about the town of Aspen. Included in this are personalities such as Adolph Barrailler and Walter Paepcke. Aspen school children are also shown skiing on Little Nell and riding the T-bar. There are Wintersköl scenes and some of the Hotel Jerome and Mario's, popular Aspen night spots. Final scenes include ski racing.

This film includes nearly all of the summer activities to be experienced in Aspen, the Snowmass Wilderness, Marble, Crystal, and Carbondale areas at the time of its making,1963. Local personalities in the opening scenes include Roberta Waterson, Sammy Craig (who became a ski coach at the University of Utah), Vivian and Bill Goodnough, and Jim Hayes. There are several scenes of the Aspen Music Festival, and the vice president of the Aspen Skiing Corporation is shown bicycling to Aspen Meadows. This is followed by brief shots of swimming at the Boomerang Lodge, tennis with Lefty Brinkman at the Aspen Meadows, exercising at the Meadows Health Center and a conference at the Aspen Institute. There are fishing and jeeping scenes, as well as shots of the Aspen Annual Horse Show, followed by horse jumping with Vivian Goodnough on the back of Colorado's famous "Charlie". There is a pack trip at Snowmass and Geneva Lakes, rock climbing in Marble with Outward Bound, sky diving with Jim Chelsey and Peter Guy, kayaking in Carbondale with Roger Paris and John Holdner, and sports car racing at the Woody Creek raceway. The film is in excellent condition with color and sound and is 20 minutes in length.
