2007.022.2463_Highlands Ski Race, 1966

One b/w negative of a racer at the finish of the Alpine Cup bicycle race on E. Main Street. Spectators are lining the street. The 200-mile race started in Aspen, went to Glenwood Springs, over Battle Mountain Pass to Leadville, and back to Aspen over Independence Pass. Related images and an article are in the Aspen Illustrated News on July 14, 1966 (page 16).

One 2.5" x 2.5" b/w publicity photograph of the Hotel Jerome pool, part of a series of photos taken in August and September of 1949. The woman standing on the diving board in a bathing suit is Nancy Atkinson Warner who came out to Aspen with a girlfriend to spend a summer in 1949 and was asked by Berko to pose for some photos for the Hotel Jerome, while a man sits looking up at her.

The Hotel Jerome is in the background, and the Aspen Times building and Matthews Drug (now Carl's Pharmacy) are on the left in the background. There are several cars parked on either side of Main Street. One car may be stuck in the middle of the road.

This image is in the Aspen Flyer on March 5, 1963, with a caption reading "One of the greatest views in the Aspen area is from the Cliffhouse restaurant atop the enlarged Buttermilk Mountain ski area. That's Aspen's personal Matterhorn, Pyramid Peak, with a mantle of clouds in the background. Glacial action is evident in Maroon Creek valley which leads to the peak."
