Description

Durrance Film. A ski film titled "Aspen Winter Mood" made in 1963 by Dick Durrance (28 minutes). Opens with scenes of ski lifts and powder snow and shots of the city of Aspen. From Aspen Mountain some people ski down to the edge of the Aspen Inn pool, where others are sunbathing and swimming. Local personalities such as Fred Iselin, John Mathias, and Red Soderstrom, Gretl Uhl, Flossie Adams, Dick McCrudden, Doug Gargle, Morrie Shepard, Rick Gardner and Jane Leddy can be seen. Barbara Vought and Edgar Stanton put on a skiing performance for the camera, and Dave Farny demonstrates his powder skiing technique. There are ski jumping scenes at Buttermilk Mt. with John Kuehlman and some boys, two of whom are identified as Dedrick Britnam and Flipper Wright. Also shows the Buttermilk t-bar. The film switches its scenes rapidly from Little Annie with Betty Moore and Pricilla and Marshall Barnard to Toklat and Stuart Mace and his dog team, to the mountain once again where Cherie Gerbaz Oates and Ron Funk (of the US Ski team) chase about for the camera, and the Aspen Mt. Ski Patrol closes the day with its final sweep. There are night scenes with shots of dinner at the Crystal Palace and Joan and Mead Metcalf performing. Final scenes show more powder skiing.
