Description

One VHS videotape of the Aspen Historical Society's "Sunset at the Sundeck," which was a farewell to the iconic building that was being torn down, April 3, 1999. The video begins with Miggs Durrance, Dick Durrance and former mayor John Bennett reminiscing on favorite memories of the Sundeck. Footage of the gondola ride to the top of Aspen Mountain follows, then guests arriving for the special dinner. The four managers of the Sundeck (Howard Awrey, Paul Wirth, Peter Birrfelder and Shlomo Ben Hamoo) are all in attendance. More reminiscences from Gretl Uhl, a group photo outside, then guests getting dinner from staff on the cafeteria line. Willard Clapper acts as MC for the evening, and his program starts approximately 22 mins, 45 secs in and features each former manager (and some of their children/grandchildren) speaking about their time at the Sundeck. Others sharing memories are Walt Smith, Peter Pfeifer, Jennifer Figge, Rick Newton, John McBride and Laurie McBride. The video cuts off on Laurie McBride telling a story.
